October is one of the better months to be in Sutton Coldfield. The Town Hall programme is packed, Sutton Park shifts into autumn mode, and the Halloween calendar gives families and adults alike plenty to choose from. Whether you’re a long-standing local or you’ve recently moved to the area, here’s a straightforward rundown of what’s happening this month.
The Town Hall on Upper Clifton Road is the focal point for entertainment throughout October, with a varied line-up running almost every weekend.
Tickets for most Town Hall events can be booked through TicketSource or directly via suttoncoldfieldtownhall.com.
Beyond the Town Hall, Sutton Coldfield’s pub and hotel venues keep a busy live music schedule running through October.
At 123 Parade:
At The Royal:
At Moor Hall Hotel, Four Oaks:
It’s worth checking directly with each venue before you go, as lineups occasionally shift.
The last week of October fills up quickly. Here’s what’s confirmed across the town:
| Date | Event | Venue | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 29 Oct | Chillin’ with a Villain Halloween Party | The Beggars Bush | All welcome |
| 30 Oct | Kids Spooky Halloween Party | The Lounge Boldmere | Ages 2–10, 3–5pm |
| 31 Oct | Halloween Spooktacular | Boldmere St Michaels FC | 6:30–11pm |
| 31 Oct | It’s A Death Sentence Halloween Masquerade Ball | Moor Hall Hotel | 18+, live 7-piece band and DJ, 7pm–11:45pm |
| 24 Oct | Boozy Bonkers Drag Bingo | Slade Road venue | Adults only |
The kids’ party at The Lounge Boldmere on the 30th is hosted by characters including Wednesday Addams and Uncle Fester, running for two hours from 3pm. A good option for families who want something structured rather than a general trick-or-treat evening.
Midland Mencap’s annual Sutton Park Challenge returns on 4 October, with distances of 1K, 5K and 10K available. The event is open to all ages and fitness levels and raises money to support people with learning disabilities. You can run, jog, walk or wheel the route.
A social running club meets weekly at Sutton Park’s Town Gate entrance throughout October, costing £3.50 per session. It runs through to December, so this month is a good time to try it if you haven’t already.
Sutton Park covers around 2,200 acres and is one of the largest urban nature reserves in Europe. October is a particularly good month to visit: the tree canopy is turning, footfall is lower than summer, and the wildlife is active ahead of winter. The park’s lakes, including Bracebridge Pool and Blackroot Pool, remain open for sailing and canoeing. Guided wildlife and fungi walks led by park rangers are available seasonally — check with the park directly for October dates.
One note for families: the Sutton Park Miniature Railway typically runs through to the end of October, including special event days during school holidays, so it may be worth timing a visit around that.
The Sutton Coldfield Farmers & Craft Market runs on the last Sunday of each month, 10am to 3pm on The Parade in the town centre (B72 1PL). In October that falls on Sunday 25th. Organised by Visit Royal Sutton Coldfield BID, the market features local produce, handmade goods and craft stalls. Free to attend.
A few practical points worth knowing:
October gives Sutton Coldfield a genuinely varied programme, from classical music and West End-style musical theatre through to family-friendly outdoor events and late-night Halloween parties. There’s enough here to fill several weekends without straying far from the town.
