Four Oaks Boys Tigers have winning start to season

Tigers 4 V 1 Burntwood Dragon Reds
Pitch : Shenstone Pathfinders
Match Report

First full game of the season for Tigers, stepping up to 9 a side with a new bigger pitch and two new players…Joe and George.

The sun was shining and Tigers seemed eager to begin with, the Captain today being Ben G.

Tigers started a little on the back foot, however within minutes they were soon on the attack with Michael and JR pushing forward between each other, which led to a couple of corners, with the second corner from Michael finding Josh C. After a short tackle, Josh C managed to score the first goal of the game, much to the joys of the home crowd.

Although there was no time to sit back, Ben G was in action to save at the other end on a couple of occasions.  The defence of Josh W, McKenzie and Ben C were solid, playing well together, clearing the ball away with some strong, long kicks.  This was followed by a superb run down the side from JR, passing to Finley and Bobby up front.  This pressure was continued with Finley unselfishly passing the ball inside for Bobby to slot home.

Again no time to relax as Burntwood Dragons had their first attack on goal, hitting the post, but Ben G had it covered.  With a good clearance the game continued.  Ben C had a free kick which just went wide of the goal.

The other team managed to score from a tap in, but there was nothing we could have done to save it.

George came on and was soon involved in the game, finding space where he could and then setting off down the pitch, clearing the ball to Finley who would then dart off towards the goal area, finding Josh C who managed to rattle their keeper.  He managed to keep the pressure on passing over to Bobby who managed again to find the goal with an excellent strike.

Joey joined the game and immediately was helping the team with a fantastic corner, finding Finley who ploughed through their defence but just couldn’t get on the score sheet.  Another day and we know we will see him score.

Joe B joined in the 2nd half and seemed to be in the middle of the action, defending very well from the start, clearing the ball – he had support from Bobby who passed to Finley for yet another fast run down the side of the pitch.

Joey continued to be in the action with a great shot which just went over, which was then followed at the other end by a brilliant save from Ben G.  This then led to some great passing between Josh W, George and Josh C – but the goal just didn’t come.

Sam joined the game and seemed to cover the whole pitch, running with the ball and tackling back when he needed to and then pushing forward to Josh C, who shot just over the crossbar.  It was obvious the pre-match chat from his mom (and also as his birthday is coming up) he was determined to try and score again.

Another of Michael’s corners followed shortly after by Bobby finding the net.  The first hat trick for the season.

Again Tigers couldn’t sit back as soon the other team were in our goal area but the defence had it covered.  Another goal may have come within the final minutes from another fast run by Finley, but their defence managed to stop it.

Man of the Match was Bobby for his superb runs and goal scoring ability

The mascot went to Joe B who continually defended and managed to clear the ball away.

A really good start today by the boys. Thank you to John Branch for his hard work marking the pitch out today. It all looked fantastic for the first game. Thanks also to Jane at the Social Club for keeping the troops fed. Our Kit sponsor Simon Bacon from Preferential Properties took the time to be there today which was great- nice for everything to look so good and to get a good result was the icing on the cake. Honourable mentions go to Ty for his continued support on the side lines, Steve Pugh for coming to help out this morning, Rachel for dealing with the match form and Jackie for taking up report writing duties. Thanks also to Steve for his linesman duties and to the Dads for putting the posts away. It is a great start to a season where the boys face new challenges but I think they will be up to them.
